What is Club Volleyball?
Club volleyball is for girls, aged 10-18 in the Abilene and surrounding Big Country area who have experience playing volleyball, either for school or recreational and want to take their game to the next level by developing their skills in a competitive environment. The club experience is similar to other travel team sports where youth athletes have the opportunity to receive advanced training and play at a higher level than recreational play.
Teams are offered at varying skill levels at local, regional, and national levels and players compete in tournaments with teams of similar skill level. Our club participates in events sanctioned by USA Volleyball (USAV) which is our governing organization.
Players must attend a summer tryout to be selected to play for a team and decisions are based on evaluation of several areas. See “Trying out for the team” for more information.
Is Club volleyball right for my athlete?
Club volleyball provides a competitive level of play for youth athletes who are interested in improving their skills and gaining the experience necessary to play in high school and beyond.

-Provides an opportunity for building relationships, new experiences, and gaining personal confidence.
-Helps develop mental agility and builds resilience.
-Allows athletes to compete at a higher level in volleyball, to achieve their their highest potential.
-Gains exposure to college recruiters.
Getting started
The first step in your club volleyball journey really depends on where your athlete is at. For beginners looking to explore the sport of volleyball, there are many local volleyball development programs, leagues, camps, and clinics offered to give your athlete a chance to explore their interest with very little cost/commitment.
There are also several area intermediate clinics and camps hosted by AYSA and local colleges, for those athletes looking to develop their skills but aren’t quite ready to take that next step to club volleyball.
You can also consider private training sessions with one of our KCV coaches for more information about availability on the Lessons Page.
For those ready to take the next step with club volleyball, it is as simple trying out for a team. Each summer, KCV holds open tryouts. This is a chance for every area athlete to come and be evaluated alongside others in their age group. For more information about upcoming tryouts visit our calendar on our website, or follow us on social media for an announcement.
Trying out for the team
Tryouts are held each summer in July-Aug with player selection offers delivered shortly after.
All players are welcome to tryout. Evaluations are held by KCV’s coaching staff with assessment based on skill, athletic ability, attitude, and potential.
Our practice and competition season generally begins in early December and runs through May (depending on age and team level).
KCV teams are arranged by skill level within each age group. We have team options from intermediate(local and regional competition) to advance/premier (national level competition). Costs vary depending on team level and travel commitment.
All teams require a level of commitment, but that level can vary based on team. Athlete participation varies depending on team level, but generally our intermediate teams compete in 4 local and 2 regional tournaments – all within 3 hours from our home base.
Our advanced teams can expect 4 local and up to 4 national level qualifier tournaments with travel varying in distance within Texas and occasionally our national teams attend a tournament outside of the state.
Club fees
Club fees vary from season to season depending on currant operating costs, staffing, number of tournaments, etc. And are clearly outlined in the player offer letter. All club fees include the following: training, coaches travel, tournament entry fees (including nationals fro national level teams), and uniforms.
Additional costs not included in fees: Annual USAV membership dues and Sun Country Region membership dues.
